Ever expected for a first date in my wildest dreams it was fabulous they’ve been going great is it tough to uh now you were on the road last with the firm is that right yeah yeah is it tough to sort of get back or is it like coming back onto a bicycle or
Something like that you know well you see of course when when i said about the first date being better than what i could ever have hoped for obviously there’s so much preparation that goes into something like this you know hardest part really being the the actual content of the set that
You’re going to play i mean we were rehearsing so many songs before we came over here trying them out to see which ones would feel good to play and uh obviously there’s all this work that goes into all the pre-production work and it’s the first state that is really the
One that lets you know whether everything you’ve done all this work you put into that into into the the show whether you got it right or wrong and it’s obvious we got it right so that was really rewarding how how different is it touring these days
From uh from the past i mean technology certainly has improved but is it uh is it different on the road for you well as far as the uh the show goes i mean we’ve got a lot more technology in there what do you mean is it wilder or
Not the audience is audiences are as wild as they used to be however what about what about off stage i mean you’re known for some road antics have you have you settled down a little bit from that or uh have you matured or i’m quite a quiet guy really swaying in the
Town isn’t that lovely come on we haven’t only just started the tour yeah what about offstage uh is is it calmer now i mean is it is it a different kind of thing i’m usually practicing the guitar all the time you know i think there’s rumors that i never used
To play the guitar i’m sure you’re doing there so you’re not you’re not throwing any television unfounded rumors as well but you know how rumors are so you’re not throwing any television sets out the window of the billboard no no it gets too expensive what uh what have the fans been like
Have you gotten a feel for what the audience is are there are there all ages are there people that are just here for the solo album obviously there are a lot of zep fans too well obvious yes obviously there’s a lot of zep fans but uh i’m surprised how
Many young people are here you know in their teens a lot a lot of uh it makes up primarily a lot of young people which is really nice you know it’s good very very musically orientated people are coming though rather than you know image type rock people
Now i understand the show is close to two hours long over two hours uh physically uh how how are you bearing up oh easy now honestly honestly it’s once get on onto this onto the stage it’s it’s i just it’s just like uh i i might sound odd but it’s like a
Chance almost and i can i can go on for quite a while you know and i feel really fresh at the end usually depending now no no no i must say here we are in phoenix and i haven’t played in an open airplane she’s probably going to be
About 90 degrees or something 95 degrees we’ll see how i get out but i think it’ll be fine how is the set structured uh what what can we expect what can the fans out there expect i mean obviously wipe away some of this arizona arizona arizona mildew yeah right um
Now the set what’s it constructed of it’s because it’s uh just in so much as the outrider album was you know me going back to my roots you know and uh going back to the blues and uh well obviously there’s a rock wrist which are very you know they’re very sort of
Stylized to myself but there’s also the acoustic music etc etc within that concept i wanted to carry that on with the uh with the tour which would promote the album and just present everything well uh things that go back to the yard birds zeppelin the firm the death wish 2
Album and outrider but most more than anything else just sort of uh showcasing all the all these sort of guitar techniques that i’ve pioneered so there’s a bow and all manner of things you know so is this kind of uh it goes back through your career and kind of uh takes little pieces
Yeah absolutely and big pieces too i might add but it you know it says there’s a lot of contrast in the set but uh you know that’s what makes it interesting i think that’s why it’s being received so well because you know you got everything from like uh
Something like um what should we say emerald eyes which is you know like a ballad uh and midnight moonlight which is an extremely complex song but it’s got all this sort of finger style bit in the middle of it it’s due to uh you know some good rock and roll as well
How how’s the band getting along and uh how are they how are they shaping up well and what did it take to get them into uh uh road shape they took it you know just took quite a few rehearsals and a lot of everyone you know understanding what i was trying to do
And in fact we’re playing really really well as a band i think that’s one of the main things that people have been saying you know they said what a good band it is tell me about j tell me about jason bonham uh what uh what’s it like having
Him back there well it’s great that’s why i got him with me you know i mean i knew he’s gonna be good that’s why that’s why i got him delty does he remind you of his father is he different is he the same i i just mean i mean musically personality-wise
Well there’s certain aspects of his demeanor which is similar i mean it’s he’s with the same blood you know he plays great he’s improving all the time which is what i knew he would do what about john miles on on on vocals now he he played go ahead sorry
I wish we could have done it inside we’ll put on the earth and have lights anyway right so uh right john miles he’s staying on here well i think he’s one of the great you know one of the stupid surprises of the whole show for people that watch because he handles
All of the vocal styles of uh well vocally he covers everything so so brilliantly and with his own style as well but i don’t you know there’s no disappointment i don’t think the fact that you know maybe other singers aren’t there believe me but believe me he’s a
Fabulous singer i mean i’m just he’s he’s knocking me out every night and totally totally uh i love the guy he’s fabulous uh is there a factor is there a zeppelin factor here obviously there are people showing up who are zeppelin fans how are you dealing with that legacy uh uh i
Know you play stairway to him chris start i mean i wrote the music of zeppelin so i deal with it very simply by playing it by playing it but also with the tracks that we’re doing uh i’ve i’ve rearranged them which is something i said i’d do in the past
You know slight rearrangements just to make them uh a little different to the way that uh two people remember them but they’re basically there you can tell it’s a number but there might just be a little thing here or there just to surprise you what about stairway to heaven is that
The uh that’s basically the climax of the show uh is it is it tough to play that song or uh is it fun to play that song it’s much easier to play it as an instrumental with the people that love the music singing it or the people that love the
Song singing it which is what’s happening the audience sing it so you know it’s great i love playing it’s instrumental is the uh is the guitar part rearranged or uh no the okay that’s rearranged in so much as it’s an instrumental [Laughter] what uh how do you feel uh
Competition wise i mean do you take a glance at sort of what what robert’s doing out there his career is obviously uh happening right now also is there any kind of competitive feeling that you have or do you just go about your own business do your own thing do the best
You can do we’ll be perfectly honest with you i i always have gone about doing what i you know do myself i’m i’m not that’s really i can’t be bothered about worrying about what he’s doing yeah in his own career and he deals with it
The way that he feels best i do with mine the way i feel best just on another subject completely how do you feel about commercial endorsements uh he’s doing a coke commercial right now and it seems to be giving him a lot of exposure uh how do you feel about it is
Do you have a feeling one way or the other about these things i know what my feeling about it is but most of the people that i’ve spoken to seem very very disappointed that that i mean i’m talking about you know people that i met fans and that who say
Oh robert came through not so long ago and then and they start talking about the coke i don’t and they say that it seems that you know it seems such a shame that that zeppelin never sold out all the way down through their whole career but suddenly given
The slightest opportunity there he is you know yeah but you know as i say everyone deals with things you know their careers and the way they want to be the way they want to be accepted the way that it’s best for their own conscience to live with you know the way
I’m doing things i’m quite happy and uh again the zeppelin reunion rumors i uh i just feel obligated to ask about this every time anything new on that front or i mean is this something that you deal with every day or are you just not thinking about it right now i deal with
Every day and so much as i’m asked about it exactly i’m asked about it maybe once every three days uh no there isn’t any plans at all at the moment and what about uh now i understand how you know no there isn’t anyone i’m not going to go into it but getting
Back on stage playing like this again uh is there is there a comparison in your mind do you compare to other times or is this something that you’re taking on on its own terms no i no not at all i mean there’s no comparison this is this is
What’s happening now you know i just don’t keep relating back to the party anyway that there’s any uh relation to the past but then the past always relates to the future anyway one one minute something has passed is now you know it relates to the future history-wise you know uh
No that’s it i’m you know that that is the only that’s the only part about it i play for the for the now moment i always try and change what i’m playing on stage every time i’m there you know i don’t play the same solo or anything try and extend numbers etcetera
Etcetera so really it’s absolutely now has uh when you’re on the road doing a kind of like an every night thing or three four nights a week uh how does it affect your own guitar playing do you get better do you get tighter uh does the constant playing make you better well
I put myself under pressure to be better every night anyway that’s the sheer fat if if i wanted to take it easy i played the same solo in every song but i’m not like that i never have been you know and yeah it’s getting obvious it’s getting better and better and better how
Did you feel about the reaction to uh to the solo album your first ever uh uh you got so you got some nice reviews uh i mean you you can’t really uh uh say it’s been a chart smash but certainly it’s gotten some nice attention uh how do you
Feel about it are you ready to do another one do you have more ideas what are your reactions to it well as i said before the reason why i did that album was because i didn’t want i wanted to go back to the basics his first album and that’s
Why i wanted to present myself as a first album out and that was done for a specific reason so that this tour the sort of material i’m playing in this tour would be part and parcel of the same thing uh some people could may not have
Understood what i was doing on that they may have expected just because it was me and there’s so many uh bands which have been have been inspired by zeppelin will say for me to do some form of corporate album straight off which i didn’t want to do i want to
Do it the way that i felt best however when it comes down to the next album yes i have i i’m going to approach it a totally different way and it’ll sound totally different and the music will be totally different one thing i can tell you about is i’ll be playing guitar neck
Have you ever thought about singing i’ve thought about it that’s about it and one last thing are you going to be playing yourself in the movie of the pamela debar book no i’ll let michael dibar do that thank you jimmy [Laughter] did we get that it’s a wrap

@fishboy91
I was watching a section of this video thinking, "Wow, who is the drummer? Jimmy finally had found someone who plays and sounds like John Bonham." A split second later, the camera panned back, and I could see that it was Jason Bonham on drums…lol

@Twotontessie
41:09 love that 80s Page sound
@redbaron1071
Jimmy Page, man of a thousand guitars! That's no joke, he has stated that he actually owns more than a thousand guitars! He must have them stored in a warehouse or something similar
@BubbaZen10
On the way to the show, i kept telling my uncle "i hope they play Who's to Blame!" 😁
@BubbaZen10
This is the best show i was ever at in my life.
Him saying hi to the people on the balconies of the hotel!
@vardenlongraf4688
I was at this concert this very night at Mesa amphitheater right up front about faith row from the stage smoking my ass off And jamming to Jimmy. Remember it very well one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Jason was an animal playing just like his daddy without even drumsticks barehanded I remember that night so memorably.
@brisbackvideos
"Whos to blame" solo here is the most perfectly phrased solo ever! and he improvised this on the spot! GENIUS!!!
@tvs3497
I moved to Blue Ridge, Ga in 1989. Soon after, I met a luthier/engineer/bass player named Greg Curbow. He was building bass guitars out of a little shop beside the old BR Motel near Lake Blue Ridge. As we became better acquainted, he shared an experienced he'd had being Page's guitar tech for most of the Outrider tour. Seems that when the band played Atlanta (where Greg was living at the time) Jimmy was looking for someone to keep his instruments up. Greg's name was mentioned and Jimmy offered him the job which Greg accepted. After the tour, Jimmy gave Greg an autographed publicity poster that read, "Thanks, Greg, for taking care of my guitars, Jimmy Page". Greg passed away around 2005. His immaculately designed and uniquely hand-built bass guitars, which sold for thousands, are still floating around out there in the music world somewhere.
@azdztribute
I was there at this show!
@kayeplan3597
Can’t stand this singer
@elainegoliszeski276
Jimmy Rocks! Love ❤️ you Jimmyyyyyy.
@RAinteractive
I've read that Jimmy had quite nasty stomach surgery the month before this, so he should really have been 'resting' under normal circumstances. I can't see he's ever commented on it, but he'd have had a very sore tummy for sure!
@arrowdog8852
Regarding comments on his performance that night: September in Mesa/Phoenix is still very hot. I was there with a buddy, it was probably over 90 F at show time; add heat from lights & amps and it really takes a toll if you are not acclimated. I am absolutely thrilled this is online 34 years later, as I developed a severe headache midway through the show (dehydration) and now I can relive many of the songs. It may not have been his 'best' performance, but it was still an awesome show and audience. The singer and Jason nailed it.
@stevenmay2937
i saw this tour in dc. he was pretty good. not as good as the 2007 zep thing in london though
@marksmith7853
Saw Page on this tour in NJ at the Meadowlands. Great show. Shame it wasn't the complete show but I'll take whatever i can get. I believe that is the great Chris Farlow on vocals.
@guineacat0928
OH SHIT, JIMMY CAN TALK🤯🤯🤯
@hunterwest54
Who is this absolute bad ass singer he has with him???
@hunterwest54
Lol he sounds great… idk why people like to aid bullshit rumors and stupid shit talk that people who have never been on stage like to start.. pretty ridiculous. It's fucking Jimmy Page… shut the fuck up with the "this isn't a good show" bullshit..
