CBD Oil For Weight Loss and Obesity

It seems the list of things of things this awesome cannabinoid can help accomplish just keeps growing! Did you know that CBD and CBD Oil Tinctures may help assist with weight loss? This is all thanks to the body’s natural Endocannabinoid system(ECS).

CBD Oil and Weight Loss

The ECS is responsible for the way CBD affects the body by responding to different chemicals in the body through 2 cannabinoid receptors—CB1 and CB2. The CB1 receptors are commonly found in the brain and central nervous system while CB2 receptors are generally in the immune system. CB1 receptors are more widespread in people with obesity, especially in fatty tissue. This is causing researchers to believe that there may be a link between the activation of CB1 receptors and obesity.

Because CBD works with other cannabinoids to activate many receptors, it can play a role in weight loss or other metabolic functions. According to a study concerning the role of cannabinoids in obesity, from 2018 done by authors Francesca Rossi, Francesca Punzo, and Emanuele Miraglia Del Giudice, CB1 receptor antagonists can help reduce appetite and control obesity. This is due to the CB1 receptor antagonists blocking or deactivating the receptor.

How CBD Oil for Weight Loss Works: White VS. Brown Fat Cells

Unlike its non-psychoactive relative, when THC is consumed, it stimulates the CB1 receptor and releases a hormone that increases appetite. A 2012 study exposed rats to CBD and found the rats had a decrease in appetite. In another study completed by John Won Yun & Hilal Ahmad Parray, they found that CBD plays multiple roles in how the body interacts with fat. They saw that the affects of CBD can turn white fat cells into brown fat cells while also stimulating the body to break down fats more easily. White fat cells is known to increase the risk of many chronic illnesses. The process of white fat cells turning to brown changes how the cells act in the body.

Brown fat cells are known to be a more active form of fat as they burn off energy as heat, which can lead to burning calories. As you know, burning calories is key to weight loss. CBD may help burn fat if the white fat cells turn into brown fat cells.

Risks of Using CBD Oil for Weight Loss and Obesity

If adding a natural CBD oil to your weight loss plan, it is suggested that you also keep an exercise and meal plan or you may not see any results. As with any other new medication, it is highly suggested to consult your doctor before adding CBD into your diet plan, especially if you’re taking any other prescription medications. At this time the FDA does not regulate CBD as they do with drugs, so be cautious and do your research on a product before trying it.
