Ohio cannabis sales increase 270% with advent of adult-use market

One week after Ohio launched adult-use cannabis sales, data from Headset reveals a threefold increase in revenue compared to the state’s regulated medical marijuana market.

Before recreational sales kicked off, the average Ohio cannabis retailer was pulling in around $12,740 per day in medical marijuana sales. Since the launch of adult-use sales on Tuesday, that figure has skyrocketed to $33,864 — a 270% increase in daily sales.

“Sales were highly positive, very strong,” said Kathleen Olivastro, senior vice president of retail of Ascend Wellness Holdings, which has five shops in Ohio and licenses that permit it to build three more stores. “Customers were so excited. They came in curious to learn about cannabis in general. Many already knew — some because of medical, some because they purchased in other states and were thrilled Ohio was moving forward with an adult-use program.”
