Cannabis Community Rallies to Feed 1,200 Families at Thanksgiving

In a year when food insecurity continues to rise across California, two cannabis community heavyweights, Hash House and QC Farms, have stepped forward to deliver something truly meaningful: thousands of Thanksgiving meals for local families in need.

What began as a challenge among friends has evolved into one of the season’s most impactful grassroots charity efforts. Organizer John (who spearheaded the campaign) tells High Times that the idea was simple: prove that the cannabis community can unify and show up for real-world causes that matter.

“We started off with a $25,000 goal,” John says. “We kicked in the first $5,000 and hoped others would follow. Within eight hours, we had blown past $50,000.”

As of this week, the fundraiser has surpassed $90,000, closing in on a $100,000 goal, remarkably, with only 42 donors, many of them John’s close friends. “We expected tons of small donations,” he says. “Instead, it was a handful of people giving massive amounts. It’s surprising more big brands haven’t stepped up. Even a repost helps when it’s something like this.”

Compton & Santa Ana Join Forces

The drive is being coordinated in partnership with The Hood Santa and the Local Hearts Foundation, the Santa Ana nonprofit long known for hands-on community support. The City of Compton has officially backed the event, providing the location and local sheriff support.

The community celebration will go beyond food distribution. Families attending the event will find:

  • A live DJ
  • Free meals served all day
  • Barbers offering free haircuts for kids
  • A safe, family-friendly environment supported by the city

With the current funds, organizers expect to feed over 1,200 families—a staggering achievement considering the relatively small number of individual contributors.

A Call for Broader Cannabis Industry Support

While Hash House and QC Farms have taken the lead, organizers hope more brands will recognize the moment.

“With how much companies talk online—who’s better, who’s bigger—you’d think stepping up for something like this would be easy,” John says. “Even a small donation or repost goes a long way.”

The call is simple: if the cannabis space wants to be seen as a legitimate, community-driven industry, supporting efforts like this is how it proves it.
