Trusted Discovery As A Starting Point

Across the cannabis industry, information that should be considered together remains scattered among licensing databases, commercial directories, menus, and business websites, each shaped by a different jurisdiction and vocabulary. For example, a consumer may find a dispensary through Google or a commercial directory, but still need to search a separate state or provincial licensing database to determine whether that business is currently licensed. Operators encounter the same fragmentation as they present their businesses and interpret the markets around them.

Canoja was founded to address that disconnection. Richard “Rich” Campbell, the company’s co-founder and CEO, describes trusted discovery as the beginning of a wider technology strategy rather than its final expression. Canoja currently helps consumers find cannabis businesses and understand the information attached to them, while its broader ambition is to build a technology and intelligence platform that makes the industry easier to discover, navigate, and understand.

“Cannabis doesn’t operate as one market. Every jurisdiction has different systems, terminology, and information, and consumers are often left trying to piece it together themselves. We started Canoja with the simple idea of making it easier to know who you’re dealing with and where the information comes from. Trusted discovery is the starting point, but our larger vision is to make the cannabis ecosystem easier to navigate and understand,” Campbell said.

Making Licensing Information Visible

That premise first appears in Canoja’s discovery experience and Canoja Verified, a designation for operators whose business and licensing information has been checked against available authoritative sources. Canoja does not issue licenses or exercise regulatory authority. Its role is to make existing records more visible and intelligible when a consumer is deciding which businesses merit further consideration.

Participating operators can review and maintain their business information within Canoja, an involvement that helps listings remain current and gives consumers more context than a prominent search result alone can provide. The immediate offering therefore joins discovery with a more disciplined account of who operates in the market and under what authority.

A Platform With A Wider Horizon

Canoja plans to build upon that foundation by deepening participation among consumers and operators, then connecting more of the information surrounding cannabis businesses, markets, and regulations. Commerce, delivery, and Ask Canoja remain elements of the company’s roadmap rather than functions of the current discovery product, and the deeper technical story belongs to a later phase of Canoja’s development.

Canoja Intelligence represents the long-term direction of this work. That capability is planned, not present.
